History

GARPE (Group for the Research and Promotion of Children) began in 2004 by Sam, a Peace Corps volunteer, and David, his Beninese counterpart.  They began small with our primary project of Moringa.  Soon, all surrounding areas were aware of the benefits of this tree and were spreading the knowledge.

Moringa is a tree which was introduced to rural Benin decades ago.  This tree is generally used for living fences or livestock enhancement.  It has since been introduced to traditional medicine and individual households as a nutritional supplement to meals.

We are working in the communities at a grass roots level in the domains of health, business, and agriculture.

Our Mission

GARPE's mission is to administer a sustainable plan that will educate the underprivileged population in the areas of income generation, nutrition, and in general for the progression of family life in rural villages.  This is accomplished by utilizing local resources so as to involve as much of the community as possible.  We are committed to fighting poverty and malnutrition through the world of agriculture.
