The Local Community

Guinagourou is a rural village of approximately 4000 people, located 45 kilometers northeast of the northern capitol, Parakou.

If a man is not a farmer professionally, he at least has fields of food to feed his family.  Staple crops are African yams, corn, and manioc.

Everyone has at least 2 jobs to keep money flowing in at all times, and even then finances are stressed.  We have one of two high schools in the entire county and students come from miles around to attend, sometimes sleeping at the church because the walk is too far.

Guinagourou is a perfect example of a northern Beninese village.  Life is sometimes very hard but there is always a smile and drink offered to visitors; who quickly become like family.
